DESCRIPTION: APW - Aurora, Grade 10, 17J with original but inaccurate "15 Ruby Jewels" marking, 18S, gold-filled OF recase, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fifth pinion model mvt, two-tone checkerboard and snowflake pattern gilt and nickel damascene, s#101250. A rare watch, the total production of the 17 jewel Grade 10 is believed to be 300 made with all examples found in a single run spanning serial numbers 101001 to 101300. The Grade 10 was Aurora's finest quality movement, while all examples of this grade were marked "15 Ruby Jewels" the open face version are incorrectly marking having an actual count of 17 jewels due to the jeweling of their fifth pinion, while the hunting case version are correctly marked 15 jewel movements without a fifth pinion.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running after a twist to start, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, strong two-tone color, nickel portion of balance cock with a somewhat grayed tone relative to nickel portion of other plates, some scattered fine and micro-fine scratches; dial with small flakes at center of seconds-register, few small edge flakes under bezel, some perimeter rub under bezel between 11 and 1; excellent hands; case shows light to medium wear, no dents or dings, reduced engraving detail, large majority of engine turning detail to bezel fully lost; tight bow, crown shows ample wear; glass crystal with small scratch near bottom.
